This principle is the core value to the FORM-AI system. Any limitations, whether it’s ankle impingement or shoulder pain, causes your body to shift how it moves. This puts pressure on tissues causes damage and, ultimately, pain. Of course no one moves perfectly all the time, but you can train successfully within your body’s natural anthropometrics.
THE FORM-AI SYSTEM
DEVELOPED BY SPORTS SCIENTISTS, FORM-AI IS AN ENTIRELY NEW WAY TO EXERCISE TOWARDS RESILIENCE IN PHYSICAL & MENTAL WELLBEING
OPTIMAL MOVEMENT IS THE BEDROCK OF ATHLETICISM AND PAIN FREE MOVEMENT
IF YOU HAVE LIMITATIONS OF MOBILITY OR STABILITY, YOUR BODY WILL FORCE YOU TO COMPENSATE AND CAUSES STRESS
All too often we see poor movement manifests in chronic pain. The FORM-AI system looks at how your body works right now and provides a training regime that includes exercises that will help any limitations or impingements you might have, improving the way you move at the same time as improving your all round strength and fitness.
SUSTAINABILITY IS KEY
We're looking to reduce performance degradation that happens naturally over time. Picking up injuries due to poor movement holds you back. The FORM-AI system is designed to optimize your productivity and longevity, keeping you moving well for longer.
Identifying Prerequisites
Each exercise has a set of things required in order for them to be done well. These are barriers to entry for them to be done well, for example, jogging could be viewed as a prerequisite for sprinting, as if you can't jog, you definitely can't sprint. The FORM-AI system identifies the prerequisites needed for every exercise and breaks them down into 3 components shown here. By understanding these we can see if an exercise is suitable for you, and if not, provide corrective exercises that get you on the path to being able to achieve them in future.
1. Biomechanical
These are your current level of mobility, stability and ability to achieve a certain position. For example, if you're not able to touch your toes, performing a deadlift is out of your biomechanical range right now.
2. Technical
This is the knowledge and skill needed to perform a movement. If you don't know the series of movements needed to perform a front squat, then we can say you don't have the technical prerequisite yet.
3. Force
The strength required to complete an exercise with a given load or speed. For example, if you can both front squat and jerk 100kg, but you can't clean 100kg, then you don't yet have the force needed for the clean and jerk.
The FORM-AI Movement Optimisation Model
EDUCATE
The FORM-AI system provides a benchmark of what ‘good’ movement looks like for each exercise. Our Movement Library app has over 1300 exercises animated in 3D with cues, so you have a thorough understanding of how to do it. Our digital personal training gives you corrective feedback to set you up for success in the long term.
ISOLATE
Any limitations or pain you have will affect your ability to do certain exercises. We identify these and isolate them from your programme, giving you corrective movements and a strategy for success through soft tissue work (foam rolling or trigger point release), stretching, as well as static and dynamic stability gains.
INTEGRATE
Once we’ve identified problems and given you a solution, we can now integrate these into a broader programme. This strategy provides you with a rounded, controlled and targeted workout plan designed to keep you improving safely, for as long as possible. Not only will you see improvements to performance, but your risk of injury is dramatically reduced.
movement taxonomy
There are millions of possible exercises, so to simplify things so we can identify prerequisites, we've developed the FORM-AI Movement Taxonomy. This allows us to understand fundamental movement patterns and how they relate to activities in sports and movement.
This taxonomy underpins our entire system and lets us quickly and easily isolate and integrate exercises in your programme that will help you move, perform and feel better.
